Netherlands - Russia 1-3

After having a pretty good tournament, we lost. In all fairness, to a much much better Russia. Russia beat us on our own game.

It's wasn't a suprise to see that the Russian team is almost the complete team of Zenith St Petersburg who won the UEFA Cup.

Yes that is very true. I knew it would have been tough for Holland

Anton be suprised:D
Only Arshavin, Anuyukov & Zyryanov are Zenit players who played, In fact only 5 players from Zenit are in the squad.

I've always had a hunch Russia would do well in this tournemant, They have great coach in Hiddink, and Russian domestic football is on the up. I can't see them winning it they are still naive in front of goal & defending set pieces, but they are a young side and can only improve so maybe the World Cup 2010

It was a shame that the Dutch couldn't play their game at all. But I think Russia was for a big part the reason for that...and they really played so well. Some players were just in brillant form on the Russian side. I was really impressed and not that sorry about losing as the Dutch just didn't have a chance.

a shame for all my Dutch friends to see Holland go out , all those sad faces in the crowd reminded me so much of the joys of watching England fail to win when it matters .

eventhough the Russians played well it was as if Holland didnt turn up , what happened to the wonderful football played against Italy and France ? and why wasnt Robben used as the last substitute ?
Andy , somewhere in the heart of Sherwood Forest in little old England

As soon as they put in Heitinga i knew that would be a mistake.
Russia deserved to win no doubt about it.

Another injury kept him from playing.

Well, to b honest, there was a little mather of a second yellow card that the ref took back. As i understand, a given card cant be taken back. There've been matches played all over becos of such a failure.
That would have meant 11 to 10 in the extra time....but i guess Russia would have beaten us anyways.

We made the same mistake we've been making untill the euro 2008. Not taking advantage of the wings, but let everything go tru the center. Wich is so easy to defend!

The ball was adjudged to have gone out before the alledged foul so the ball was dead so no foul took place! Although replays show the ball didn't go out but there was also no contact between the players so it wasn't a foul. In a way justice was done

I must say I'm impressed with how gracefully the dutchies accepted defeat, unlike some people. Right Woody?;)
