Alaska Governor Sarah Palin Wins 2008 Rubber Dodo Award

Palin Has Sought to Remove Endangered Species Act Protection for the Polar Bear, Suppressed and Lied About State Global Warming Studies, and Denied That Global Warming Is Caused by Greenhouse Gas Emissions

TUCSON, Ariz.— The Center for Biological Diversity today awarded Alaska Governor Sarah Palin the 2008 Rubber Dodo Award. Last year’s award, which inaugurated the prize, went to Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne for setting a new record in refusing to add imperiled plants and animals to the endangered species list. This year’s award goes to Governor Palin for fighting Kempthorne’s designation of the polar bear as a threatened species.

The 2008 Rubber Dodo Award goes to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. (For a high-resolution version of this image, click here.)
“Governor Palin has waged a deceptive, dangerous, and costly battle against the polar bear,” said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Her position on global warming is so extreme, she makes Dick Cheney look like an Al Gore devotee.”

Palin has waged a deceptive public relations campaign, asserting that the polar bear is increasing. But many populations (including Alaska’s southern Beaufort Sea) are in decline and two-thirds (including all Alaska bears) are projected to disappear by 2050 by the U.S. Geological Survey.

Palin has repeatedly asserted that Alaska Department of Fish and Game scientists found fatal flaws in the sea ice models used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to determine the polar bear is threatened. When challenged, Palin refused to release the alleged state review. Independent scientists eventually obtained a summary through the federal Freedom of Information Act, revealing that Palin had lied: The state mammalogists concurred with the Fish and Wildlife Service determination that Arctic sea ice is melting at an extraordinary rate and threatens the polar bear with extinction.

“All global warming deniers are eventually forced to suppress scientific studies, and Palin is no different,” said Suckling. “To maintain her ludicrous opposition to protecting the polar bear in the face of massive scientific consensus, Palin stepped over the line to lie about and suppress government science.”

Palin has since filed a frivolous lawsuit against the Bush administration to have the threatened listing overturned. Meanwhile, the U.S. Geological Survey announced on September 16th that the 2008 summertime Arctic sea-ice melt was the second greatest on record, nearly matching the extraordinary melt of 2007.

“Palin’s insistence that Arctic melting is ‘uncertain’ is like someone debating the theory of gravity as they plunge off a cliff,” said Suckling. “It’s hopeless, reckless, and extremely cynical.”

It's a very scary thought to me that this person might get in a position where she has to lead the USA.I hope people keep this in mind when they vote.

Just to make things clear i'm not trying to start a discussion, just expressing my personal opinion ;)

OBAMA SUX!  We can express opinions here ...right?  Lets all vote for Obama...

You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon.
You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience.
You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience.
BUT....  'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United States Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in  the Senate.   That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.  After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the  Free World .... 143 days.We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start.
AND, strangely, a large sector of the American public is okay with this and campaigning for him. We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet some are okay with this for the President of the United States of America ? Come on folks, we are not voting for the next American Idol!

WAKE UP! The issue in this thread about this DODO award has NOTHING to do with how well a vice president can do their job... If this is what type of situation you base your vote on...you have a lot to learn about politics!

All Im saying is that Her views on endangered species is a VERY IGNORANT subject to base an opinion OR a vote for president on.  I dont think that endangered animals is a very important issue.  There are many more issues to worry about than a polar bear, or a dodo bird, or any other endangered animal. Instead of focusing on a stupid endangered animal, how about focus on something like the fact that Obama doesnt mind killing an unborn child (abortion).  Its nice to know that many people would rather save a polar bear, than a human being.  IMO, by supporting OBAMA, it only shows how uneducated a person is about the issues at hand.  If Obama is elected president, I may just move in with you Woody, unless you want to beat me up b/c we dont share the same views on politics :D

Um, if you are as conservative as you appear, you probably don't want to move in with any Europeans.

Seriously, Sarah Palin's ridiculous views scare the shit out of me.  She is so incredibly shady, and all you can do is gripe about Obama's lack of experience, while championing a small town mayor for vice president.

Which reminds me, why do Republicans focus so much on Palin instead of the real presidential nominee?  Are they counting on him dying?  Sure seems that way, and if so, that's a real shame.

All Republicans have to say about Obama is "lack of experience".  It's so hypocritical that it's crazy.

It's totally hypocrite when you think that republicans choosen G.W.Bush as candidate in 2000 and he had no experience at all except alcool, cocain, party and girls and manage a baseball team !

So when they say Obama has no experience that's bullshit and a lie he's a senator since several years.

And about Bush i still think he didnt learn of his mistakes during 8 years he's still dumb :D

But i promised to not talk about politics so i'm leaving this thread in peace ;)

Aside from splattering the "stupid" endangered animals, this is someone who wouldn't accept abortion even if the girl was raped http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/01/palin-on-abortion-id-oppo_n_122924.html , someone who seem to think it's a human right to own guns and kill as many wild animals as possible (preferably from a plane?  ), someone who uses her powers to hurt her enemies and get her school friends into high positions.
Quote
So when there was a vacancy at the top of the state Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as one of her qualifications for running the roughly $2 million agency.
Havemeister was one of at least five high school classmates Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private-sector wages.
