An interesting trading idea

Just saw this on a Damien Rice forum:

http://eskimofriends.com/forum/showpost.php?p=346342&postcount=26

Basically, the suggestion is to trade hard drives full of shows, as opposed to stray shows (I think Dead fans may have done this as well). Apparently you can fit an entire archive of Damien shows on an HD under 160gb, which is obviously not true of the Crows, but I thought it was intriguing and maybe worth pursuing. Could make it easier to spread the seeding burden on old shows.

I thought of this a while back, whilst losing a couple of pounds worth of DVD isn't a big loss, losing this could be a lot more expensive, also the postal service aren't always known for being gentle

I think you'd have to be a bit careful in packing, but yeah, that's a concern.

the prices on 1TB externals have come way down. You could probably fit a decent crows collection on there. I don't think shipping would be a problem. Some syrofoam peanuts and a priority box should do the trick.

Yeah, they're down to about $100 for a 1TB external.

I know I would... there's a lot of time to fill in between Crows tours.

I personally listen to most of my shows in the car. So, I would need cd's to play them, but I wouldn't be surprised if someday you could just plug your hard drive into your stereo unit and select songs on the touch screen.

Now are we talking .flac files or .wav files (or shall I even dare to say mp3 files)?

I would guess .flac, although if something were only available in .mp3 I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. There could also be DVD files.

As you note, you'd have to burn to CD if you wanted those (although, Bryan does your car allow you to plug in a music player, like an iPod? There's plenty of music players now that play .flac files).
