OK - I took my best stab at the lyrics from NonComm.  Also, please address Andy's gender changes.  Go.

Palisades Park

Palisades Park - Noncomm

Somebody screamed
All of Jim Jeffrey's dreams explode into a black fist
Falls to the floor
He stares up at the sky
He may wish he knew why
but you can't go back there no more.

Future sounds so crazy
We all heard that song before
Tomorrow's the name we change from yesterday
to blame when the trains don't stop here anymore.

I got starry-eyed on the coaster ride
Andy said man I need a break from the world outside
these days my life just careens through a pinball machine
i could do so much better
but i can't get off the tilt.

There's a photograph on the tv
black and white and
Andy says something to you
It's jack johnson straddling Reno nevada
She says I forget myself sometimes too.

But out past the doorways
where we are sleeping
well, the white queen's creepin', the tomcat's peepin'
now i'm not breaking
the train's just shaking
i've never made it here before
there's a wild mouse spinning the girl around
til they can't take it anymore
I used to dream in the dark of palisades park
down over the cliffs and out into the dark
it's a long life full of long nights
but it's not what i was waiting for.
Everybody dreams of horses diving down the shore.
It's a miracle they don't make them anymore.

So, make up ladies.
Wake up babies.

You walk into the bar like some Saturday star
Stood straight on spiked heels and needles and nerves
And you're a downtown pride
fully amplified clyde (?)
gin-tight (?) and aging but well-preserved
Remember Andy outside your bedroom window
saying come on let's drive across to the palisades
keep going til we hit reno nevada
i don't see andy all that much these days

still there are pages in back of the action stacks
where the white queen's creeping and tomcat's peeping
the train's not breaking, the track's just shaking
i never made it here before
there's a skyrocket turning the world around
til they can't take it anymore
yeah you can carry that spark from palisades park
up over the cliffs and down among the stars
it's a long life full of long nights
but it's not what i was looking for.

everybody's seen the horses riding round the shore.
it's a bad dream we're not having anymore.

Man
Have you seen Andy?
Hey man, hey man.
Have you seen him around?
Hey man, have you seen my, my, my, my, my Andy?
Have you seen him, have you seen him, have you seen him... hey have you seen Andy around?

Dressed up in our pirate best
all leathers, and feathers and pearls
Andy said look at me man
I'm cooking these hands (?) with a finger up this whole world

Saying come outside.
Climb out your bedroom window.
Shimmy down the fire escape and say goodbye.

Come outside.
Andy said I'm dressed up just like Edie (?)
changing all the time, my leopard spots to polka dots and say goodbye

Come outside.
Well, maybe we can move to California
Just meet me at the subway and say goodbye.

Come outside.
The cops all think we're crazy.
If you stay, you'll just get married.
To a girl who'll never know you and then say goodbye.

Hey man, have you seen Andy?  I lost her in the sun.
I was high as a kite
All lovely and white
Man, you could lose anyone.

Hey hey man, have you seen Andy?  I don't know where she's gone.
Real love outlives teenage lust.
Aw we can get wet and it keeps us warm.

Love is like angel dust.
Lovely sometimes changes us.
Sometimes not.

Have you been aching to trust
or just
have you been faking yourself with lust?
Have you been making us up or just taking us home?

It's a long wait...
At a long light...
Cars frozen in flight...
All the traffic stops to stare
at a crosswalk in Reno, Nevada
wearing nothing but air
and a pair of gray-paper wings
Andy thinks man I have got nothing to wear
Awww... we've got nothing doing.
We've got nothing to wear.
We got nothing to wear.
We got nothing to wear.

FYI.. I believe it's "There's a wild mouse spinning the girls around" not "man." It's a ride- the wild mouse. Also.. I think he's just saying "we got nothing to wear" again at the end (you put "we've got nothing doing"). Other than that looks pretty accurate aside from the ? mark parts (which I'm not sure of either). Thanks for typing them up!

From this interview (http://cltampa.com/earbuds/archives/2014/05/30/interview-counting-crows-frontman-adam-duritz-discusses-his-mental-health-a-fresh-lp-from-his-band-and-more?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed#.U5n0hCiFxOd):

"The first song on the album is called “Palisades Park.” It's about the best thing I've written in my life. It's an epic story of two kids from New York in the late ‘70s and their lives Basin Park. It's about taking a look at your life and trying to figure out how you got here when you were there. It’s also about Reno in 1910 and the story of Jack Johnson knocking out Jim Jefferies, who ends up lying on the ground looking at the sky thinking he's not sure how this happened, how am I here? I was there. It starts as a story about that, then changes to be about these kids and their lives and how they changed. It's the best thing I've ever written, very heartfelt. I'm not a character in the story at all really. Well I kind of am cause a scene is from one of my perspectives, but I was never really able to write that way before."

And from another interview (http://www.goupstate.com/article/20140612/ENT/406121001)

“It's an interesting song,” Duritz said. “It actually starts off set in 1910 in Reno, Nev., when Jack Johnson beats Jim Jeffries in a boxing match. Johnson at that point is the first (African-American) heavyweight champion, but Jeffries was the last big white champion who's coming to take it back.

“It sort of begins with Jeffries lying on his back on the ground. You've got this guy wondering how the (expletive) he got there, because he used to be somewhere else and he can't get back to that.”

Duritz said the song eventually makes its way to a different place and time.

“Then, it's just this story about these two kids who grew up in the '70s in New York City, and it's a pretty interesting time. Punk is starting to come around, there's an interesting drug culture and interesting gay culture, (and) all kinds of things are changing.

“And these kids are spinning along, running out of town across the river to this amusement park called Palisades Park that used to be in Jersey. And they go through a lot of different changes in their lives … and they end up in different places.”"

Interesting!  Thanks for posting.  I had seen one, but not the other.
So Andy is a "he" in the beginning and a "she" at the end.
I'm glad Adam explained in that article - I do not think it is entirely clear from the progression of the lyrics.
These lyrics right next to each other throw me off:

Come outside.
The cops all think we're crazy.
If you stay, you'll just get married.
To a girl who'll never know you and then say goodbye.

Hey man, have you seen Andy?  I lost her in the sun.
I was high as a kite
All lovely and white
Man, you could lose anyone.

I swear in this version of the song he says "and down above Sparks" when he first sings the chorus (:50-1:00). It fits since Reno and Sparks are side by side.

It's "down among the sparks"

Any possibility that the lines... "everybody's seen the horses riding round the shore. it's a bad dream we're not having anymore." is reference to or closure to "Margery Dreams of Horses" or "Another Horsedreamer's Blues"? Probably a reach but it's the first thought I had the first time I heard Palisades.

If they play margery next week in Kentucky we'll know for sure. (A song about ky in ky...) but we all know that'll never happen.

I forget, but was this written for the play originally? I can hear it being very suited to a theatre show.

I just asked a question about Adam writing songs for the play. I thought I read somewhere that he actually wrote songs for the play.

Pretty sure none of these songs were written for the play. That's still an ongoing project. He's implied that all the songs for this record were written in the fall last year.

Interesting to hear him use more of the lyrics as an alt to Round Here (Pittsburgh show), besides just "come outside."

I gotcha. He did write songs for the play just for someone else to sing.
