Sturgill Simpson
« on: December 10, 2014, 05:01:33 PM »
This is my new musical discovery. I know I am late to the party. I had his music in my collection for a while I just never got around to listening to it until this weekend. I was hooked from the opening notes/words. I've read stuff from people who said he the savoir of Country Music. the best thing they heard in 25 years or so. He's not a Cowboy Hat /Cowboy Boot Country musician. He's also not some flashy Nashville Pop Star. He's the real deal. He's shunned by Nashville. I don't even like Country music yet I love him. You can stream his music at the following link. BTW before he went solo he was the front man for a band called Sunday Valley. I picked up the only album by them I could find and it was like getting punched in the face over and over again. He was just on Seth Meyers last night and killed it with his cover of the 80's song the Promise. He's nominated for a Grammy for best Americana Album.

Brilliant album.  It's our #2 album of 2014 at the Five Minute Music Reviews podcast.  By far, the best country album of the year.

The only thing I am missing from my Sturgill Simpson collection is the 2004 self titled Sunday Valley album. BTW if you like Sturgill I highly recomend you check out the band Yarn. I've mentioned them on crows town more times then I can count. Not sure if you have or not. They are also doing the country thing.
