Well, 2008 is a different animal, because the sets were so short. When they were only playing 75 minutes a night, it was a lot easier to mix things up.

Shouldn't it be the opposite? When bands have to play shorter sets they usually stick to the hits and a similar setlist. I don't see why them playing a longer set would cause them to decide to open with the same three songs every night, play the same encore, and shuffle around the same songs from show to show in the body of the sets. They just don't take as many risks as they did then it seems.

If you're playing 60 songs total and rotating through 14 a night, your sets will look a lot less stale than if you're doing 20 a night. But agree, they have gotten really lazy with the structure of the sets, to the point where anyone following them could easily name 75% of the set before they start.

What made Baltimore a weird show?

At least they seem to be adding more of RTS now,i've seen Goodnight Eisabeth,Recovering the Satellites,Catapult,Mercury,Children in bloom all such great songs.

YES!

RTS is one of my favorite complete albums.  I would LOVE for that to carry over into September shows.

Eric-
Technically it's the second time you've heard possibility live seeing as I called you in Nashville last year, the first time it was ever played;) otherwise I agree with what you're saying;)

IMO my favorite set of the year has to of been toronto. It was so good that two friends I'd been trying to talk into Montreal decided "fuck it, we're going to Montreal even though our plane leaves out of Toronto the next day" lol. And it's a long drive to montreal. Not completely sure as it was back in spring and I hopped on a greyhound so I could sleep for the night. I'm definitely going to cbus & Detroit. Possibly Dayton..

If the cbus set is the American version of the Toronto set, I'm totally going to dayton;)

True. I forgot about Nashville. Except this was the 1st time in I hears it in person. I had yet to see a bad show at PNC. HopefullyI can keep the streak alive.

They soundchecked "Speedway" in CT. Would be a great addition to the sets... was happy to finally hear that one live! One of my favorites.

Everyone has those somewhat rare songs that they've landed on a bit more than others. Mine's probably Goodnight Elisabeth.
